Homemade is the best way.
It is possible for us all to achieve the better versions of ourselves through dedication, knowledge, guidance and consciousness
For those of you who already know me, you can say right off the bat that I’m the ultimate foodie, I love cooking, I love being active and outdoors. I love sharing the meals that I prepare with my friends and family– it’s one of the things that brings the most joy to my life. I’m constantly researching the latest news on holistic health and nutrition, how to live a life that makes you feel good and be present in everything that you do. This is something a lot of people are constantly seeking, and sometimes never find. Why do we make it so hard? Why can’t we just nourish ourselves with wholesome foods that make us feel good, energized, and happy instead of lethargic and bloated? We are living in a world that doesn’t understand people who choose to not eat meat because it does harm to our bodies and to our planet; we do things like purchase processed meats, cheeses, and eggs at the store but don’t ever stop to think about how it got there, at what cost the animal endured before arriving at your local supermarket. The good thing is, this is slowly changing 🙂
After watching the documentaries Cowspiracy, Forks over Knives, and reading countless blogs and articles about veganism and what happens to your body when you consume animal products, I’ve realized these are the things that I’m starting to become more and more aware of, and starting to take more seriously in my life. Thus, I hope to make a lot of changes in the year 2016 that will do great things for not only my body, but for the health of our planet.
I’m a California girl that has been living on an island in the South of Brazil for the last 2 and a half years. Unfortunately, I’ve had numerous health issues occur since I arrived and have had to adjust my lifestyle in a lot of ways due to food allergies and intolerances that have made my life a lot more challenging. I’ve never been a meat-eater, (because my body simply does not digest it well) and lactose has always been a food allergy throughout my whole life. Socially speaking, it’s pretty challenging to say no to foods that taste amazing when they’re constantly being offered to you, but you know that within hours you’ll be suffering terribly uncomfortable side effects. I’m from the Napa Valley dammit, I like to have my wine and cheese nights on the REG- but i’ve learned that the repercussions just aren’t worth it! Feeling sick has become such a regular thing that I realize now is time to make some big changes.
Being plant-based is a lifestyle; it requires research, diligence, and patience. As a kickstart, I want to see how my body reacts to 30 days with no animal products, refined sugars and sodium (which I basically consider poison but have to admit that I indulged in both quite a bit during the holidays) and avoid alcohol all together. The idea is to cleanse toxins that accumulate in the body using Ayurvedic, holistic and wholesome foods that will heal, repair, and energize the body. Most importantly, I want to explore consciousness and the full potential of what my body can achieve, while simultaneously doing my part to slow down the process of the damage we do to our planet through unsustainable animal product consumption. After these 30 days, I want to continue this as a lifestyle, a way of taking care of myself always and constantly being mindful of what I put into my body.
I invite you to start this challenge with me. Are you in?!?!
I will be posting daily about the foods that I eat, new creative recipes, my exercise routines (usually walking, hiking and yoga), and my progress as I go on this journey! This has nothing to do with food restrictions nor cutting everything out, but more of re-educating myself how to create meals that are SATISFYING and delicious without doing harm to my body. Thanks for your support and please message me with any questions, suggestions, etc–I’m always open to new ideas and love to hear your comments. This is in no way a blog to try and convince you into turning vegan or going to any extremes, it’s simply a way for me to document my progress and inspire you to go after the best… YOU.
Thank you and stay tuned!
